Implanted Defibrillator Association of Scotland, a group for all Scottish
ICD patients.
We are a patient led support group with charitable status. Because of geography we only hold one general meeting per year at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland. Regional Groups meet two to three time per year at Ayr Hospital, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen. We publish a Newsletter - 'Vital Spark' - four times a year. We produce leaflets entitled "So I have an Implanted Defibrillator - what now?", "Driving", "Mobile Phones", "Holidays", "Advice for family and friends", "First aid" and one about our association. We offer befriending, advice and hospital visits to meet new cases. We also subsidise mobile phone use to encourage independence. Contact with and visits from other individuals and groups would be welcome. As a Group we cover the whole of Scotland drawing members from the two Cardiology units in Scotland that implant defibrillators, namely Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. We hold one annual country wide meeting and several Regional meetings, we also publish advisory leaflets and a quarterly newsletter. We provide a listening ear to any one, implantee or other about problems of ICD life and we also help with mobile phone costs which we find helps re-build confidence in first timers. We would welcome contact with anyone who would
wish it.
