Dec 07th
Well folks, here we are again doing an update on what has happened to me over the last six months. As you all know, I have been in the Knights Templar for the last year. Well, the day came for me to be invested as a Knight. My friends, Margaret, and I set off one early morning to leave for Littlehampton some 200 miles away. Seeing that we had not been there before we had to work out a route, which we had some fun with. We had four routes to pick from and trying not to use the motor ways, as we call them in the UK. We started at 8.30am, had to be in Littlehampton by 4.00pm, and booked into the hotel. We got on well on the roads and made good time, after a couple of hours we were outside Oxford and boy was it pouring down! After a break of 30 minutes we took off again making good time again so we had a break for some food after 1 hour boy we needed it I can tell you. We saw some lovely sights on the way, places I had never seen before, like all of us, but we made it to Littlehampton by 2.30pm and that's when all the things went wrong. Littlehampton is only little I can tell you but to find the hotel was something else, we found every other hotel but not the one we booked into on the phone. We were told it was on top of a roundabout. No-one told us how many there were in this little town. Boy did we get lost, we even asked a taxi driver and he took us to the wrong one as well! Time was running out, but we did find it at long last only to be told we could not book in till 3.00pm that gave us an hour to get some food and get changed and be at the meeting by 4.00pm and we had to find the church as well. Guess what! We got lost once more so I got to the meeting late, but we got there. I attended the meeting while the others went and looked around this little town, I told them to be back between 6.00pm and 6.30pm for the church service for the investitures, and boy, I thought that is going to be me. I found out later, as we were getting ready, I was going to be invested on the Sunday. We finished the meeting before 6.00pm and my party was not back. We were about to go into the service when just as we were about to go though the door they came through the door, so they had to go out again to go into the church and find their seats. I got dressed, went into the church, and found my seat at the front with them. This service went well as I was not doing anything, so I just sat and enjoyed the service. This lasted about an hour. Then we had to go back to undress to go to the meal which was and looked good. Boy I needed a drink, I can tell you, and I had one as well or two was it? We sat down to the meal and it was lovely only to find I had to speak after one course while the other was getting ready. Boy, this was one thing I had not planned for, but still I got on with it and spoke for three minutes about me and my family and all went well after that. However, the next trick was to find the hotel. Repeatedly we got lost many times but we got there and I fell in the bed only to find we had to get up at 6.30am to get ready for the service in the morning, well the bed was not too great but I did get some sleep. We were woken up at 6.30 to get dressed for the service but before we started on the road again we had to have breakfast which we did and we got to the church with 30 minutes to spare, that's when the fun began. I had to get dressed again but in a white mantle (cloak) and I had to go into the church before anyone else to have a little service and then back again to take that off and put a new one on. Boy I did not know whether I was coming or going I can tell you as the church was filling up with the local people and little me again was at the front with my party all ready to be dubbed. My nerves were at breaking point as I did not know when I was going up to the front to be dubbed or knighted but the time had come I was going to do this on my own without any help. I got to the front and was given a paper with details on to read off with my new mantle on which is in the picture below and was dubbed as a new knight and I had to get back to my place. I was told afterwards that the sun came out as I was being dubbed which please my friends and family. I am proud of being one of the Knights Templar, it is not a birthright but the actions we do in life. I hope you like the pictures and I have to thank all my family and friends but most of all I thank God I am able to think of what I do in every day life. Perhaps if we all think at this time of year we can but help just one person then life would be a lot better. After all we are thinking of the birth of Jesus . Happy Christmas to one and all. See you in the new year
